Shimonoseki Port International Terminal Kampu Ferry offers daily service between Shimonoseki Port and Busan Port, Korea. It was inaugurated in 1970 as Japan's first international ferry line, and in 1998, "Hamayuu" was put into service. Furthermore, in 2002, a newly-built ship, "Seonghee" was added. In regard to its cargo transport service, with customs clearance available everyday throughout the year, goods from Korea to the Kanto or Kansai regions can be easily transported within two or three days. Thus the ferry is used as a very speedy mode of transportation.

Shimonoseki Port International Terminal
The service between Shimonoseki Port and Qingdao Port in China was inaugurated in 1980 to mark a friendly relationship between the two countries and was succeeded by the Orient Ferry in 1998. The Orient Ferry makes three trips a week between the two ports in June 2005. It is established as the shipping route that ties Shimonoseki and its friendship city Qingdao. The ferry is favoured by many passengers for its punctuality and velocity. It operates as the window to the Continent along with the Kampu Ferry and Shanghai - Shimonoseki Ferry.

The Shanghai-Shimonoseki Ferry started its operation once a week between Shimonoseki Port and Taicang Port(in Suzhou) in September 2006 as a RoRo ship. The Utopia 2 is the largest type of ferry operating between Japan and China. It holds superior qualities in velocity and punctuality and offers a unique service cultivated in Shimonoseki over the years. It possesses a great future for the shipping service between the economic area of Suzhou-Shanghai and Japan and is expected to become a more frequented shipping route as well as a travel path for tourist when it opens to regular passengers.
