Container service from the Port of Shimonoseki to Busan Port started
in 1992, and at present 5 trips a week are in operation. In addition
to local cargo between Japan and Korea, freight is transported
to and from China, India, Pakistan, North America, Europe, South
Africa, etc., by major shipping companies with transhipment at
Busan.
Furthermore, in May 2002, one vessel a week began calling at Kwangyang,
increasing the transportation of chemical products, the main cargo
item of this route. Also, in June 2002, the Qingdao-Shimonoseki
route was inaugurated on one trip a week basis, and an increase
in import business is expected by utilizing this fastest service
from the Port of Qingdao (Huangdao).
