At the western edge of Shimonoseki City, these port areas lie in
the heart of the industrial area.
Nishiyama Wharf has three berths; 12m, 5.5m and
4.5m depth each as well as an open timber storage yard (53,000m2).
Thus, it can be used in many ways to take advantage of its convenient
location close to the industrial area in addition to its primary function
as a centre for imported foreign timber.
Kanmon Kaikyo Ferry, which connects Kokurakita Ward in Kitakyushu City
with Shimonoseki City, departs from and arrives at Arata Wharf.
In the Fukuura Area, a boat park with mooring facilities for 100 pleasure
boats and quay side storage facilities is due start operations in 2004.
