The main port area fulfills the central role of Shimonoseki Port. Architecturally, Shimonoseki Port International Terminal is an image of the ocean and seagoing vessels. It was completed in March 1988. This international terminal was the first in Japan to service foreign sea routes and its facilities include CIQ equipment. Second floor houses ticketing services, and customs and immigration administration. It is a very lively place with travelers departing for and arriving from Korea and China. 7 minutes by foot to JR Shimonoseki Station from International Terminal. 5 minutes by foot to Sea Mall (Shopping Center). 7 minutes by foot to Kaikyo Yume Tower (153m-high observatory)
